A: Also known as abdominoplasty, tummy tuck is an ideal procedure to tighten the muscles, and remove excess fat and skin from the abdominal area, providing patients with a visibly improved abdominal contour. Excess fat mainly occurs after pregnancy, massive weight loss or even due to hereditary factors. In most cases, this procedure also restores weakened or separated muscles. Tummy tuck surgery is of two types, complete abdominoplasty and partial abdominoplasty.
A: Women and men who have excess skin and/or fat in the abdominal region that does not respond to diet and exercise are candidates for abdominoplasty. Women who want to undergo this procedure are usually advised to wait until they have completed child bearing.
A: The pain after the procedure is usually related to elevation of skin flaps and tightening of the abdominal muscles. Pain associated with abdominoplasty may be there for the first 24-48 hours following surgery, but rapidly diminishes with time. Some swelling and bruising are normal, but would vary from person to person.
A: At bodySCULPT®, our surgeons utilize diverse abdominoplasty techniques such as liposuction-only abdominoplasty, limited abdominoplasty, complete abdominoplasty and Brazilian tummy tuck. The plastic surgeon will determine the right option for you based on the extent of correction required. In a full abdominoplasty, abdominal muscles that may have become stretched out or loose over time are tightened. While a complete abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and involves incisions, minimally invasive techniques use only local anesthesia.
At bodySCULPT®, we use advanced modalities such as laser-assisted Smartlipo Triplex, radiofrequency-assisted BodyTite and ultrasound-assisted VASER to achieve the desired body contouring results. These safe, minimally invasive body contouring technologies can provide optimal results with high-definition sculpting capabilities and proven tissue coagulation and skin tightening benefits.

A: This depends on the area where the stretch marks are present. Stretch marks can be improved to some extent if they are located on the areas of excess skin that is excised.
A: The results can last many years with the right effort to maintain the outcome. Weight changes and pregnancy can affect the results. Aging also may have an impact on the outcome as the tissues get relaxed gradually, though not to the extent before the surgery.
A: Minor swelling and bruising are quite common after the surgery. You may be advised to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling, and to support the abdomen as it heals.
A: The recovery ranges from 2-4 weeks depending on which type of tummy tuck you have. Patients will be recommended to refrain from any heavy lifting or exercise for at least 3 weeks from the time of surgery. Age as well as medical conditions are factors to consider as well.
A: Factors that affect the cost include the type of procedure you plan to undergo, location of the plastic surgery center, the surgeon's fees and duration of the procedure. During the initial consultation with your plastic surgeon, you can obtain a clear idea of the costs involved in the tummy tuck procedure.
