FAQ – Liposuction
Q: What is liposuction?
A: Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure to remove excess fat from the body that is difficult to reduce with diet and exercise alone.
Q: What are the areas that can be treated with liposuction?
A: This versatile procedure can be used to treat a variety of areas of the body including abdomen, flanks, thighs, buttocks, hips, face, arms, neck and chin.
Q: Is liposuction safe?
A: Liposuction is a safe procedure, but there are risks and potential complications associated with any surgery. Safety of the treatment mainly depends on your surgeon’s experience. Our bodySCULPT® surgeons are experienced in performing over 1000 liposuction procedures annually.
Q: Can I enjoy permanent results with this procedure?
A: The results of liposuction can be long-lasting, provided you maintain a healthy body weight and exercise regularly. The more weight a patient gains after the treatment, the less dramatic the results of liposuction will be.
Q: Who is a good liposuction candidate?
A: An ideal candidate is one who is physically healthy and psychologically stable with normal body weight, but has localized areas of superfluous fat. Someone who is proportionate but overweight is not a good liposuction candidate.
Q: Can I reduce my weight with this treatment?
A: Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or weight loss.
Q: Can liposuction treat cellulite and saggy skin?
A: It is not an effective treatment for cellulite – the dimpled skin that typically appears on the thighs, hips, and buttocks – or saggy skin.
Q: What happens during my consultation?
A: During consultation, the surgeon will thoroughly analyze your concern and recommend the right liposuction type that suits your condition. The surgeon will also answer any questions you may have as well as the results you can realistically expect.
Q: How do I know how I will look like after the procedure?
Each patient is unique. Browse the before and after photos on our website of real patients treated by our plastic surgeons that will give you an idea regarding the results you can expect. bodySCULPT® surgeons use innovative 3D simulation technologies – Axis Three and VECTRA 3D imaging systems to visualize your results for the face and body even before the surgery.
Q: How is the fat removed?
A: Traditional liposuction works by applying suction to pull excess fat into a hollow metal cannula or tube so that it can be suctioned out of the body. In this procedure, the surgeon operates the cannula manually.
At bodySCULPT®, our surgeons are also experienced in utilizing advanced, minimally invasive technologies such as BodyTite (radiofrequency-assisted) and VASERlipo (ultrasound-assisted) to remove localized deposits of fat and sculpt the body. For these energy based techniques, a small cannula is inserted under the skin to deliver energy and liquefy / melt the unwanted fat cells gently so that they can be easily removed.
Q: Can the fat removed during liposuction be used elsewhere?
A: Fat transfer procedures are now popular. The procedure uses the patient’s own fat removed through lipolysis to enhance other areas of the body such as the buttocks. Brazilian butt lift via fat grafting is an ideal procedure for women to achieve fuller, curvier, and rounder buttocks through a natural procedure.
bodySCULPT® is the first plastic surgery group to do BBL under local anesthesia for a 2 week recovery.
Q: How much does liposuction cost?
A: Several factors including the amount of fat being removed, the number of areas being treated, and procedure type influence the final cost of your liposuction. During your initial consultation, an affordable treatment plan will be thoroughly explained to you.
Q: How long is the recovery period?
A: Each person’s recovery time will vary based on factors such as the volume of fat cells removed and area treated. Following post-surgical instructions is critical for smooth recovery. Your surgeon may recommend wearing a compression garment for a few weeks following surgery to minimize swelling and help skin contraction.
