Unlike conventional liposuction which requires general anesthesia, body contouring in NYC now involves the use of minimally invasive techniques that require only local anesthesia. One versatile minimally invasive modality that provides excellent aesthetic results is BodyTite. This advanced liposuction platform makes use of patented radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) technology to provide safe, gentle and sophisticated body contouring. A study published in the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal by plastic surgeons Spero J. Theodorou, Christopher T. Chia and Robert J. Paresi found that the BodyTite RFAL device is safe and effective for energy-based liposuction with local anesthesia in the awake patient. In fact, this is the first study that used RFAL with local anesthesia in an accredited outpatient office operating facility (AAAASF).
The study involved 97 patients who underwent RFAL under local anesthesia under IRB approval. The surgeons treated 144 anatomical areas in 132 operations and collected the following data: age, sex, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), anatomical area of treatment, operative time, amount of tumescent solution used, amount of fat aspirated, amount of kilojoules (kJ) delivered, and the incidence of infections, seromas, adverse effects from medications, and thermal injuries. The patients were asked to complete an online survey assessing the aesthetic outcome and quality of life after treatment with RFAL-assisted liposuction. Three independent plastic surgeons were asked to evaluate photographs of 6-month postoperative results in comparison to the preoperative photos.
The results were as follows:
- The overall incidence of major complications was 6.25% and the incidence of minor complications was 8.3%.
- 82-85% of patients were satisfied with the body contouring and skin-tightening effects of RFAL
- 89% of patients reported they would definitely or probably recommend RFAL treatment to someone else
- Overall patient satisfaction was 82% for the degree of skin tightening and 85% for BodyTite body contouring results.
- Independent evaluators noted the improvement in body contour as good to excellent in 74.5% of patients and improvement in skin tightening as good to excellent in 58.5% of patients.
The results led the authors to conclude that the BodyTite RFAL device is a safe and effective option for energy-based liposuction using local tumescent anesthesia in the awake patient.
The researchers also found that anesthetizing and treating sensitive areas like the thighs and chest with the RFAL device under local anesthesia took more than the average operating time by traditional liposuction. The authors also noted that higher concentration of lidocaine in tumescent fluid is a critical part of effectively performing BodyTite liposuction under local anesthesia.
The surgeons consider the ideal candidate for BodyTite treatment as a person with moderate to severe skin laxity without irreversible damage to the dermis or presence of stretch marks. A moderate amount of excess fat tissue is necessary to allow for subdermal contraction to occur.
BodyTite removes unwanted and stubborn fat from multiple areas of the body such as the face, neck, chin, upper arms, abdominal areas, love handles, hips, inner thighs, knees, and buttocks. ArmTite and the BodyTite Perky Lift are two procedures that use The RFAL-assisted liposuction technique to provide well-shaped arms and breasts without scars and extensive downtime.
The right surgeon and reliable aftercare and follow-up are all very important factors when it comes to success with body contouring in NYC. Only a experienced plastic surgeon who is sensitive to patient requirements and attaches top priority to patient safety and care can provide safe treatment and attractive and long-lasting body sculpting results.
