The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery reports that the results of a survey it conducted in 2014 show that body sculpting treatments are increasing in popularity. According to the ASDS press release, its members performed more than 207,000 body sculpting procedures in 2014, marking a 16 percent increase from 2013 and a 53 percent rise since 2012.
ASDS sent the survey to 3,980 practicing ASDS members and 826 physicians responded by reporting 2014 data from January 2 to February 6, 2015. Here are some of the interesting findings:
- The most popular treatment was cryolipolysis with 79,000 procedures performed in 2014. This novel treatment reshapes the body by the cooling and breaking down the fat cells which are eliminated through natural metabolic processes – all while preserving the surrounding tissues.
- Radiofrequency procedures ranked second with 49,000 treatments performed in 2014.
- Tumescent liposuction came third with about 32,000 procedures.
- Laser lipolysis was the fourth most popular body contouring treatment with 14,000 procedures.
The President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery says, “Body sculpting is among the fastest-growing areas in cosmetic dermatology….The results patients are seeing from these procedures combined with minimal recovery time make body sculpting an appealing option for more and more patients each year.”
